Advertising Creates Affordable Legal Representation
Today, society is brimming with opportunities for professionals to advertise their practice. In that way, consumers are exposed to a variety of options. Competition keeps prices affordable for anyone in need of a service and knowledge is readily available concerning professional organizations. It is hard to imagine a time, therefore, when lawyers, doctors, accountants, architects, and other professionals were not allowed to advertise their services. However, just forty years ago, when the law firm of Jacoby & Meyers in California began practice, they were unable to advertise. They believed that the lack of advertisement fostered artificially high prices for legal services and a lack of knowledge among members of the public. As a result, the law firm was one of the most influential in obtaining the national right to advertise. The history of Jacoby & Meyers is filled with honorable accomplishments. As a law firm, they have been influential in obtaining many important rights for the legal profession. If you are interested in the major accomplishments of the firm, visit their " about Jacoby & Meyers" web page.
Could Pokemon KILL your child?
Pokemon is one of the most popular trends for children in the United States. Countless children own pokemon merchandise. It is shocking, therefore, to learn that a pokemon plush toy may contain the tips of needles in their stuffing. Your child's pokemon toy could pose a puncture hazard! The CPSC and Pokemon USA Inc. of New York, New York, are currently recalling about 9,200 Pokemon Plush Toys. If the faulty manufacturing of this toy has injured your child, you deserve full compensation.
Tougher Regulations for Children's Ads
As most Americans know, obesity is now a leading cause of death in the United States. Unfortunately, taking diet pills to regain a healthy body can be hazardous to your health as well. The injuries you may sustain from the use of certain diet pills can be life threatening. The attorneys at Trief & Olk in New York and New Jersey have depth and breadth of experience in pharmaceutical litigation to represent those who have sustained injuries from diet pills. But, as representatives of the public, the firm is relieved to hear that tougher regulations for children's ads will soon be implemented in an attempt to curb obesity in children. If children can learn healthy eating habits at a young age, diet pills will no longer be necessary. Among the tougher regulations are ways to crack down on product placement in TV shows, the use of licensed characters in ads and food packaging and "advergaming," the practice of showing online games with brands of candy, soft drinks, and cereals. Currently, over 12 billion dollars are spent annually on advertising for children. Hopefully the new regulations will reduce the number of obese children, and eventually eliminate the market for dangerous diet pills.
Why Are Medical Malpractice Insurance Rates Up?
Recent studies have shown that medical malpractice cases have not returned larger settlements than in the past. In fact, a recent study released by the center of Justice and Democracy found that, between the years 2000 and 2004, the amount paid in settlements only increased by 5.7 percent. This minor increase is nothing compared to medical malpractice insurance rates. According to the same study, medical malpractice insurance rates increased an enormous 120 percent! So, why are medical malpractice rates up? The answer to that question is a shocking one. The study reported that insurance companies have increased their surpluses. Insurance companies are making more money at the expense of doctors- and, ultimately their patients.
No Tort Crisis
We have all heard it. All too common is the story of insanely large medical malpractice settlements causing insurance premiums to skyrocket for doctors. Politicians commonly cite tort law as a reason for high medical costs and problems with the American healthcare system. With all of the hype surrounding large tort claims, one would imagine that there has recently been a large increase in the size of medical malpractice settlements. Surprisingly, new research published in the latest issue of Journal of Empirical Legal Studies examines Texas medical malpractice claims and finds no tort crisis. Instead, the study’s authors find that, over a 15-year period, the system was largely stable and generated few significant changes in claim frequencies, payments, or jury verdicts. Why, then, is there so much propaganda surrounding medical malpractice cases? Your guess is as good as mine. One thing is for certain, however. If a doctor has unjustly injured you or someone you love, you deserve compensation. Consider contacting Bush Lewis, PLLC in the Beaumont-Port Arthur area of Texas. They could be the perfect law firm to handle your medical malpractice case.
The Nation's Largest Law School is Unable to Expand
Thomas M. Cooley Law School recently lost a federal court battle to expand its courses at campuses in Oakland and Kent counties. The American Bar Association refused to let the school expand due to poor performance rates on the state bar exam by law students who attend the current campus. The American Bar Association states one of its goals as ensuring that law education is the finest possible. They obviously take that goal seriously. If a law school is not producing the best lawyers possible, then it should be made to reform before being allowed to expand. Luckily, there are many highly qualified lawyers who have passed the bar exam and are capable of practicing law at the highest level possible. Without education, the practice wouldn’t have the ability to win the important cases that make it such a powerful law firm. Hopefully, Cooley Law School can improve their education before the case is appealed next year.
Tobacco Companies Pay Up
Personal injury lawyers are in the business because they care about the rights of victims. Tobacco products can cause a wide array of health problems. It has been proved that tobacco companies also engaged in a 50-year conspiracy to both defraud the public about the risks of smoking and lure children into the dangerous habit. Because of this, tobacco companies have long been the targets of personal injury lawsuits. Recently, the six largest tobacco companies were made to pay $14 billion, a small amount compared to the amount sought by prosecutors, to help the many exposed to the adverse effects of tobacco products. While the amount is far less then what was sought, it is still a step toward reducing sickness and the number of deaths that occur because of tobacco-related diseases. But, until tobacco stops causing new illness, it is expected that the personal injury lawsuits will continue.
