$253 Million Awarded to Widow of Vioxx User

Negative reactions to prescription medications kill and injure thousands of people each year.

Many drugs on the market, even some that are heavily advertised, are neither safe nor effective. We have recently had a shocking reminder of the dangers that drugs can pose. Vioxx, an arthritis painkiller, was found to cause serious medical side effects in those that used it. The maker of the Vioxx, Merck, deliberately withheld information about the potentially fatal side effects of their drug. They withheld information about he side-effects from doctors as well in an attempt to rush the drug onto the market. Scores of cases of heart attacks and strokes ailing patients finally led to its withdrawal from the market. Unfortunately, that withdrawal came too late for many victims.

Robert Ernst was one such victim. He died from the side effects of the drug in 2001. Recently, his widow Carol was able to secure retribution for her husband’s death. A Texas jury awarded her $253 million dollars for her loss. While the money could never replace her husband, the verdict of the trial opens the door for many more personal injury cases that deal with the drug Vioxx. In fact, more than 4,000 sufferers from around the world have also lodged negligence claims against Merck, with experts warning that the company faces a " potentially unlimited" flood of cases that could cost it more than $50 billion. For sufferers, however, that number still seems too small to fully settle their losses.

If you or someone you know has suffered the potentially fatal side effects of Vioxx, don’t hesitate. Contact a qualified personal injury lawyer to represent your lawsuit against the drug company.

You deserve the BEST... don't you?

Personal injury is an area of the law that deals with events that directly effect people's lives. If you or someone you know becomes the victim, you don't want an incompetent lawyer to represent your case. You deserve the full and fair compensation that a qualified individual can win for you. In choosing the lawyer, there is much to consider. Both the attorney's education and experience is important to take into account. However, often the most important thing to consider is the lawyer's reputation. A good reputation is a sure sign that a legal professional has what it takes to properly represent clients. If you live in the Washington D.C. area, there is one law firm that shines above the rest with its reputation. That firm is Chaikin & Sherman, P.C. NBC Gives Us A Glimpse Into the Lives of Personal Injury Lawyers

NBC has recently launched a new reality television show, The Law Firm. This action may not seem newsworthy, as there are so many reality TV shows on air. However, the show has something that no other reality TV shows have: a behind-the-scenes look at real trial lawyers in action on real cases. After the first episode on Thursday night, it was clear who needed to go. The two young legal representatives who were dismissed from the show made obvious, considerable mistakes in their cases. To experienced trial lawyers such as Thaddeus M. Bond, Jr. in Illinois, the mistakes of the contestants may seem fundamental, but to the rest of us, the show merely provides an entertaining glimpse into the lives of personal injury lawyers.

Pesticides Cause Birth Defects

Across the United States, and especially in agricultural states such as Florida, thousands of people are employed in nurseries that use pesticides. New research is showing that this job may be even more dangerous then previously thought. Two and a half years ago Mario Chavez, an employee of a nursery that uses pesticides, suffered a stroke caused by over-exposure to dangerous chemicals. He wasn't provided with gloves or a mask to protect him.

In addition, his youngest daughter was born without the lower half of her right arm. Mario and his wife (who was also a nursery employee) are convinced that the birth defect is a result of the pesticides. Luckily, an investigation is being launched to uncover the truth about pesticide use in Florida. Personal injury lawyers are currently representing Mario, his wife, and his daughter to get them the compensation they deserve for their unnecessary injuries.

If you or someone you know has been exposed to toxic chemicals, like pesticides, you may have a personal injury case. A qualified personal injury attorney is best able to represent your case and get you the reparation that you are entitled to. In Florida, Wooten, Honeywell, Kimbrough, Gibson, Doherty & Normand, P.A. is a practiced law firm ready to represent your case.
