California Minority Counsel Program

In California, ethnic minorities make up over half of the population, workforce, and consumer markets. Even in a diverse state such as California, minority attorneys continue to be underrepresented in high level positions within the legal profession. This fact inspired the establishment of the California Minority Counsel Program (CMCP) in 1989. The CMCP works to increase opportunities for minority attorneys to demonstrate the quality of their work to agencies and corporations. This organization strives to achieve a legal profession in which ethnic background and race are no longer factors impeding advancement opportunities in the law. The CMCP hosts annual programs throughout California aimed at increasing networking opportunities for minority attorneys, providing continuing legal education, and assisting member organizations in reaching diversity goals. These programs include the Annual Business Development Conference, the Minority Corporation Counsel Conference, and several other seminars and social events. Additionally, the CMCP offers the only statewide searchable database of minority attorneys in California.
