Located in New York, Albany Law School is the oldest, independent law school in North America, with a proud 152-year tradition of providing legal instruction. Students enrolled at the Albany Law School may choose either a three-year or four-year program in pursuing their Juris Doctor degree. The Law School offers joint degree programs, where a student may earn a Master’s degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Regional Planning, or Business Administration, while earning a Juris Doctor degree. An advanced law degree program, Master of Law and Letters (L.L.M.), allows attorneys to increase their knowledge in a specific area of law. The Law School offers an L.L.M. in Government Administration and Regulation, Intellectual Property, Health Law, International Law, or a program designed by the candidate. Finally, the Law School offers a Master of Science in Legal Studies program designed for the professional who does not want to practice law, but could benefit from a deeper understanding of the law.
In addition to the required courses, the curriculum covers over 12 areas of specialization, while providing numerous opportunities for field placements, such as internships through the Clinical Legal Studies Program, Science and Technology Law Center, and Government Law Center. Situated in the capital of New York State, students have access to New York’s highest court, federal courts, and the state legislature.
